The City of Ferndale announced today that it will partner with Oakland County to deliver a COVID-19 vaccine clinic based out of the City’s Kulick Community Center. The clinic is scheduled to run initially on Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with more dates potentially added if there’s a demand.

The clinic will provide Pfizer vaccines by appointment only, with 500 doses available per day. Wednesday’s clinic was made available to members of the public already in queue with the County’s Save My Spot portal. Thursday’s clinic has been reserved for Ferndale-area residents and employees—specifically anyone who lives or works in Ferndale, Royal Oak Twp., or Pleasant Ridge.

Mayor Melanie Piana said she’s thankful to the City’s partners at Oakland County for providing this much-needed service.

“I’ve been speaking to residents, business owners, and employees, and this a real want—a real need—in Ferndale,” Piana said. “We have a community that wants to step up and do their part to keep their friends and neighbors safe and end this pandemic, and I’m thrilled that we’re able to deliver a service to help accomplish this goal.”

To receive an appointment for Thursday’s clinic, residents must call the Ferndale Fire Department at 248-546-2500. The Department is available to take appointment calls Thursday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. and Sunday and Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. After 2:00 Monday, remaining appointment slots will be made available to the public via Save My Spot.

Those with appointments at next week’s vaccine clinics will receive follow-up appointments at the same time and location three weeks later for their second doses.

Ferndale Fire Chief Teresa Robinson, who led clinic coordination efforts with Ferndale’s City Manager, Facilities Manager, and COVID-19 leadership team, says that she and the team have worked to create a clinic space that is safe and accessible for all.

“The Kulick Center is currently closed to the public and offers plenty of space to ensure safe distancing,” said Robinson. “We’ve created a plan for one-way traffic through the building, with people entering from one door and exiting through another, and both doors have ramps for accessible access.”

Additionally, Oakland County has partnered with SMART Bus for local accessible transportation to and from vaccine appointments. When registering for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, any resident who has transportation needs can simply check a box to indicate they need a ride to their appointment. When they receive their confirmation email, they are prompted to call 800-848-5533 to schedule their transportation to and from the clinic.

Ferndale is one of 12 community-based clinics being conducted by the County this week and next; others are located in Hazel Park, Holly, Lake Orion, Pontiac, Rochester, Royal Oak Township, Troy, Waterford, and West Bloomfield.
