Ferndale Celebrates Diversity and Community Spirit with the
First Annual Downtown Ferndale Mural Program

Downtown Ferndale is proud to announce the successful completion of the first annual Downtown Ferndale Mural Program, an initiative that brought together artists from diverse backgrounds to create captivating 6 murals and 1 art installation throughout our vibrant city. This program was organized by the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in partnership with the Ferndale Arts & Cultural Commission, aimed to enrich the visual experience of Downtown Ferndale while fostering a sense of belonging for all who visit.

The theme for the inaugural program, “You Belong Here,” reflected the values of inclusivity and community that define Ferndale. The selected artists were chosen from over 50 applications for how they encapsulated the spirit of this theme in their creations. The result has been vibrant and dynamic murals that celebrate the rich diversity of our city.

2023 Theme – You Belong Here
Belonging in Downtown Ferndale can mean different things to different people. We encourage artists to search for inspiration in the theme in whatever way it speaks to them. The Ferndale DDA is proud to be part of a city which has received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index for inclusive policies by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and the Equality Federation Institute. Learn more here. In June 2020, the Ferndale DDA also formally supported the City of Ferndale’s ‘Declaration of Commitment to Antiracism’. Together, we pledged to use the moment as a learning opportunity. We pledged to evaluate what we could be doing differently in identifying racism and promoting a culture of openness, equity, and justice in our community. Discrimination in any form threatens this effort and undermines the vision that the Ferndale DDA has for our downtown.
