It’s no surprise that Thom Bloom and Scott Myrick chose an owl to illustrate their deep-rooted vision, better known as Otus Supply.

Jokingly, Bloom refers to their new establishment as the “Spruce Goose” they have been working on for a lot of years in the garage.

Conquering more than their fair share of difficulty along the way, the idea began to really take flight in 2012.  345 E. Nine Mile would soon begin the anticipated transformation, nearly doubling in size.  Previously an 8,000-sq. ft. office-warehouse, the vision for artists and guests alike was opened for business on December 20, 2016.

Employing a “come one, come all” mentality, the business partners have created a diverse yet sincere environment for every individual visiting their humble abode, whether it be for work or for play.

Bloom said he always had a vision for bringing all the things he loves together under one roof.  The combination of great food, culture, great people, art and music all connect in a way that feels welcoming and comfortable.

Additionally, the duo set out to create a sanctuary for both long distance and local musicians they’d be proud to call their home away from home.  Having formed their brotherhood in the concert business, Bloom and Myrick are no strangers to life on the road.  The guys know firsthand just how depleting the lifestyle of a traveling musician can be.

Determination, drive and passion to provide a hospitable haven for their melodic visitors far exceeds the inferior tribulations they overcame as their vision progressed.

“Ferndale is the kindest place to do business, everyone is on board with doing what’s right”, said Bloom.

Myrick (pictured) adds, the positive energy affiliated with the new venue is so contagious people are having tattoos designed to match the owl motif - "we're presenting a good product that we're proud of”.

Bloom has been a resident of Ferndale for 17 years and says he wouldn’t live anywhere else.  He is more than accustomed to the solution oriented, forward thinking, level headed community Otus Supply is among.

Another cool benefit this unique concept is bringing to our neighborhood is the newcomer energy and enthusiasm.  Bloom engages with visitors from all over who are harmonizing with their Fabulous Ferndale debut, aspiring for sequential encore appearances!  Beyond a few regulars, he rarely recognizes his guests during a jam-packed Friday night dinner service.

Stepping into Otus Supply is comparable to stepping inside the heart and soul of creative collaborators, Bloom and Myrick.  Undoubtedly, they’ve designed a restaurant that showcases the legacy of their true character.

As Bloom puts it, “above all, life is about making an impact, not an income.”  Always believe in yourself, stay humble, work hard, be empathetic, be gracious, connect socially and be proud of your heritage.

Much like owls, Otus Supply imparts a uniquely amazing experience enclosed within a surplus of knowledge and wisdom embodied through artistic expression.
