DESCRIPTION:We want to hear from YOU!  Join us for a Public Information Session about Downtown Wayfinding & Sidewalks for an upcoming project in 2026.  \nThe DDA Board recently selected MERJE out of West Chester\, PA to facilitate the wayfinding design for Downtown Ferndale.  MERJE is a nationally recognized design firm with specific expertise in Community Wayfinding\, having worked with more than 200 communities in the development of similar programs.  During this discovery phase the project\, MEJE will be gathering information that will help inform the design of the system.  During this session\, we’ll share information about the project and what to expect\, and collect preliminary input from you as an important stakeholder. \nOn Wednesday\, December 10th\, we’ll have a public information presentation in Council Chambers\, from 6:00-7:00 pm.  \nThe session should last about an hour and we intend to livestream it\, but if that’s not successful\, a recording will at least be available afterward. This will be the first\, but certainly not last\, opportunity for the public to engage with the process. \n \nYou may want to think about the following as they relate to wayfinding in Downtown Ferndale\, either in general or with regard to specific destinations:\n\nWhat makes Downtown Ferndale different\, unique and a special place?\nWhat are the wayfinding obstacles that visitors encounter when they arrive or travel throughout the city?\nAre there connections or cross-marketing opportunities between destinations\, activities\, and amenities?\nHow do destinations and visitors use digital tools for promotional purposes or to find their way?\nAre there any known projects that may affect our wayfinding implementation\, or that our wayfinding initiative may need to be aligned with?\n\nWhat is Wayfinding?\n\nWayfinding is a system of design elements\, including signage\, maps\, and architectural features\, that helps people navigate and orient themselves in a physical environment. It is a multi-disciplinary practice that uses visual cues to guide individuals to their destinations with minimal stress\, encompassing everything from directional signs in a hospital to the layout of a city park or help visitors navigate Downtown Ferndale. \n\n\nThank you for your partnership and attention to this important topic.
